A urinary catheter is used to drain the urinary bladder when it cannot be emptied normally. This workshop will familiarise participants with the correct, best practices for urinary catheters insertion, ensuring the procedure is carried out in a safe manner which minimises trauma and infection risks. It also explains the importance and value of privacy, dignity, and respect for the service user.

• Infection prevention and control

• Emptying and replacing catheter bags

• Common complications when using different types of catheters

• Common complications associated with using different types of catheters

• Indicators of complications requiring intervention, including conditions requiring intervention by a health professional.
